10 May 2009 - PA Fun Run

PA FUN RUN –The Fun Run yesterday was another successful event within the life of our school. Over 240

people turned out to join in the race and were rewarded with goodie bags as they crossed the finish line. The

children received a medal for their achievement of completing the 1 or 5 km race. We saw lots of different

people running through the village of all ages.

At 10.30am we were ready for the start as the 1 km runners assembled on the road outside the school. Dan Brett

set them off and the children, parents and grandparents raced off down Sundays Hill. Within 5 minutes the first

runners were back at the finish line, with Adam Forbes coming in at 5 minutes and 20 seconds. He was closely followed by the rest of the 120 runners participating. All of the children received goodie bags and medals as they crossed the finish line. It was then the turn of those doing the 5 and 10km run.

Once again all the runners, 100 of them lined up at the start line ready for the off. The mass of runners then

made their way down Sundays Hill, Church Road and onto Marshall Lane and onto the fields that circle the

village. There was much excitement when the first runner came round the bend opposite St. Mary’s Church. The

first Almondsbury CE Primary School runner back was Rupert Lowther in year 6. He completed the course in 23

minutes 51 seconds. The runners then came thick and fast back home to the finish line. A great achievement,

completing the course on such a lovely and warm day. Prizes were given to all the winners and the first home in

each class in the 1 km race for Key Stage 1 and for the 5km in Key Stage 2.

All running times are on the link below.

Once again we need to say a massive thank you to Dan Brett and Shonagh Withey, who were the main

organisers of the event. If it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t have had such a successful day. Thank you to all the PA

members, especially Nicola Phillips, the marshals along the course, the Keele’s for the loan of their land, Café

Gusto for the goodie bags and sponsorship to the run, the people of the village and to everyone who participated in a fantastic event.

We hope to see you all again next year.!
